Salted VS Salty Conversation

Updated: Sep 17, 2022

You’re having a pleasant conversation with your spouse that’s seasoned just right and then all of a sudden, they take the top off the salt shaker and just dump it on the conversation. Things just got real salty! Just like a meal, that conversation is ruined! Either you start arguing or you retreat to separate rooms or maybe both!

Salty means you are upset, angry, agitated, irritated and it comes across in your conversation. Salted comes from Colossians 4:6 where it begins “Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt…”. How we communicate with each other is critical to a healthy marriage. Here’s an accountability check. Ask your spouse, ”Have my words been salted or salty lately.”

In the same way that we must watch our salt intake in the food we eat. We have to watch the salt in our communication with our spouse. In the flesh, you can watch the salt that is dumped destroy a marriage. Or in the Spirit, you can watch the salt that is sprinkled strengthen a marriage. Spiritual salt represents the voice of reason, restraint, and restoration in the face of adversity. The right kind of salt in the right proportion goes along way towards perfectly seasoning your marriage.
